SATB setting of a beloved medieval Eucharistic text.
Text:
Ave verum corpus, natum
de Maria Virgine,
vere passum, immolatum
in cruce pro homine
cuius latus perforatum
fluxit aqua et sanguine:
esto nobis praegustatum
in mortis examine.
O dulcis, O pie,
O Iesu, fili Mariae.
Miserere mei.
Translation (From “The Parish Book of Chant, 2nd Edition”):
Hail, true body, born of the Virgin Mary: having truly suffered, immolated on the cross for man: from whose pierced side flowed water and blood, be unto us a foretaste (of glory) in the trial of death. O sweet Jesus, O loving Jesus, O Jesus, Son of Mary. Have mercy on me.
